Steve Markel Withdraws, Gives Support to Sean Mullally

Thanks to all my supporters, but the reality of a too-crowded race has forced me to withdraw. There are some "not-so-democrats" runing as democrats in the primary race. It is more important that Sean Mullally, an individual who repesents the real values of our Democratic party, wins this race. If I were to continue as I have been, there is a chance an "elephant in donkey's clothing" could win the primary election. Therefore, I have given my full support to Sean.

Right to Life or Pro Choice?

RTL/Choice is Not a Black & White IssueI believe each person's life is unique and precious.  Consequently, our society should honor, respect, and cherish life from conception to grave.  So when two lives meet at a crossroads, as is the case with a pregnancy, a woman should be given carefully selected options that make measures resulting in the taking of a life rare, safe, and legal. Many have done little but use alarming rhetoric about doing something to women faced with this difficult decision. The mantra of “Make it illegal and put them and their doctor in jail!” is just too simplistic an approach to a very complicated matter.

Instead positive, supportive, and systemic actions need to be taken that result in a successful birth experience for all Americans: both mother and child. No deaths is the goal to be achieved. Systemic change, however, must not infringe on the rights of a woman struggling with the difficult issue that result from unplanned, unsupported, or life-threatening pregnancy. Every woman must be guaranteed access to the counsel of her doctor when dealing with life-changing decisions.

As a society we can't afford to make criminals out of doctors and women.   As a society we can't afford to treat the gift of life lightly.

Therefore, we need to focus on strong mothers and healthy babies by taking these action steps:

  1. Reducing unwanted pregnancy – this is education
  2. Provide assistance for women with an unwanted pregnancy – this is support and follow-through
  3. Address the needs of women in high risk unwanted pregnancy situations – this is compassion
  4. Offer alternatives that will benefit mother and child – this builds a strong society

Please support Steve Markel’s sensible and effective way to address this difficult issue by donating, volunteering, and voting for Steve Markel for State Representative in the August 3 primary.
